Thank you for your advice. A very difficult situation for me and I think that you’re right I will probably begin having to keep an eye on appropriate job openings. I think I will mostly play it by ear for now.

Also, it’s always good for when in doubt to stick to the classics such as: To Kill a Mockingbird or Moby Dick.

Another one is the Hunger Games books. They were quite good when they came out. I also quite enjoyed the movies made from them.

John replied to the topic Some good movie and series recommendations in the forum Music and movies 5 months, 2 weeks ago
Over the years I have watched a lot of series and can vouch for some of the best of them.
Game of Thrones (HBO)
Based of the novels by George R.R. Martin; this is a long running fantasy medieval series with magic and monsters. It sounds a bit goofy but it’s drowning with deep gritty political drama and is very, very bloody. After season one…[Read more] -

The Tobey Maguire Spiderman movies by Sam Raimi are a classic for me. I tend to re-watch it every couple of years and I can probably quote Spiderman 3 word for word.

John replied to the topic Is music only for entertainment? in the forum Music and movies 5 months, 2 weeks ago
Even if it could be argued that music is only for entertainment I think that because it resonates with so many of us on an emotional level it becomes a catalyst of memory and feelings in our lives.

The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) is Fantastic! If you can watch all of them I highly recommend it. A couple of the movies aren’t that great but it’s definitely worth it for the climactic final movies Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

John replied to the topic Tech for Weight loss in the forum Tech 5 months, 2 weeks ago
Thank you for all of your suggestions! So it seems I either need a FitBit or a dog. I’ll probably end up choosing the latter as I only really want to shave off the couple pounds I gained over Christmas and a dog seems like a bit of leap for me haha.
I’m still going to do more research as FitBit prices vary it seems and I’m not sure yet which one…[Read more]

John replied to the topic Does anyone have any pets? in the forum Pets 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I used to have two dogs. I had a Golden Retriever called Oscar who was the cutest gentlest soul there ever was with such a warmth in his heart. I also had a King-Charles Cavalier Spaniel called Tye who was a sort of rescue in a way as when he was very young he used to be an old ladies dog and she had to go into a care home and unfortunately she…[Read more]

I’m quite a big techie myself but I’ve no idea where to start regarding weight loss tech. I’m seeking something to add a bit of fun and technology to my weight loss journey.

I have found that my diet is okay but I’ve just become less active with age and in turn put on a few pounds.
What are some simple activities I could do as a 39-year-old male to shave off a bit of weight?

John replied to the topic 10 things to ask a care home in the forum Care in the community 5 months, 3 weeks ago
This is really insightful and helpful as (hopefully not anytime soon) I’ll eventually end up having to put my grandparents in a care home and I think it’s important to pick the right one.

I’d never even considered the fact that foods can have an effect like this. Amazing.

Cereal boxes tends to be a good form of this where the art/ logo can change a little bit but they likely keep some pieces of nostalgia. Weetabix and Coco pops are examples of this in my opinion. Coco pops are a bit controversial as the monkey has changed a lot over the years but there is still a monkey after all.

John replied to the topic Is it good to sleep when I have a migraine? in the forum Food & Nutrition 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I have friend that suffers from migraines somewhat regularly and he often finds that as soon as he can tell it’s gonna be a bad one he pops a couple headache tablets and tries to go to sleep. He often finds that sleep is the best thing for him as if he stays awake with a bad migraine he’s just gonna end up feeling worse and worse and end up…[Read more]

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of eggs having anything to do with migraines. I’d probably consult a doctor if I was you.

John replied to the topic Are there certain ages at which a body's metabolism slows down? in the forum Food & Nutrition 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I can’t speak for any facts but I know that when I was younger I had a pretty unhealthy diet of junk food and was still somewhat skinny and then a bit later in my life with pretty much the same diet I started to put on a few pounds. It honestly could’ve been that maybe I’d slown down a bit and was less active and had less exercise.
